Metropolitan hotel

19 Old Park Lane, London W1K 1LB

Our Review

A pioneering London design hotel, the Metropolitan is most famous as the locale of the Met Bar (a notorious celebrity hang-out) and the Nobu Restaurant, co-owned by actor Robert De Niro. Aside for this, however, is offers all the comfort and friendly, efficient service you would expect from a modern luxury hotel.

Arguably the first of London’s new breed of minimalist yet ultra-trendy designer properties, the Metropolitan Hotel was opened in 1997, under the supervision of designer Keith Hobbs. The startlingly spacious, uncluttered lobby is staffed by smart, Armani-clad reception clerks, who are none the less friendly and efficient. The 155 guestrooms are appointed in a understated yet unmistakably luxurious style, with pear-wood panelling, slim light fittings, Egyptian cotton sheets, suede upholstered furniture, and floor to ceiling windows offering wonderful views over Hyde Park and Park Lane. The en suite bathrooms are finished in grey marble, wood and steel, complemented by signature Shambala toiletries.
The hotel’s Nobu Restaurant – owned by chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and actor Robert DeNiro – remains one of London’s top, fashionable restaurants and offers stunning Japanese food. Breakfast at the Metropolitan is taken in The White Room, a calm space in which to begin the day with a deliciously fresh menu. Guests can also relax each evening in the iconic Met Bar, which is located adjacent to the lobby and operates a strict members and residents-only policy from 9.00pm until 3.00am. Famous for the celebrities who have adorned (and sometimes misbehaved in) its decadent leather booths, it is still one of the capital’s trendiest venues. It offers an unrivalled selection of classics and modern cocktails, accompanied by a delicious menu of light bites.
